“Near Busch Gardens” covers everything from a hotel across the road from the main entrance to one six miles away in a nature preserve, and the difference matters more than any star rating. This guide to hotels near Busch Gardens Tampa starts from the park’s own list of partner hotels, which says how far each one is and which run a free shuttle, and adds what the list leaves out: what the area around the park is actually like, when the shuttle beats paying for parking, and the honest question of whether you should stay up here at all.
That question comes first, because for most visitors the answer is no. Busch Gardens is in North Tampa, about eight miles from downtown, and nothing around it connects to the rest of the city by any transit a visitor would use. A hotel next to the park is convenient for one or two days at the park and inconvenient for everything else. Our guide to where to stay in Tampa Bay makes that case in full. This page is for the trips where staying near the park really does make sense, and they are more common than that sounds.
The short answer
- Closest: the Hampton Inn & Suites Tampa Busch Gardens Area, which the park describes as directly across from its main entrance.
- Free shuttle to the park: the park’s partner list names four: Embassy Suites by Hilton Tampa USF Near Busch Gardens, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa-USF-Busch Gardens, Hilton Garden Inn Tampa North and Oasis Bay Suites.
- A kitchen for a family: Home2 Suites by Hilton Tampa USF Near Busch Gardens, about a mile away, with full kitchens and breakfast.
- Stay near the park for two or more park days, a Fun Card, Adventure Island plus Busch Gardens, late nights at the seasonal events, or small children who need a short trip back to the room.
- Stay downtown instead if Busch Gardens is one day of a wider Tampa trip, and drive up for that day.
- The money point: parking at the park costs from $35 plus tax a day. A shuttle hotel can save that every day you go.
Should you stay near Busch Gardens?
Work it out from the trip rather than from the map. Staying near the park is the right call when:
- You are doing two or more park days. A Two-Day Two-Park ticket at $100, or a Fun Card at $129.99 that covers unlimited visits through the end of 2027, turns Busch Gardens into a base rather than a day trip.
- You are combining it with Adventure Island, the water park across the street, which is seasonal: select dates from roughly early March to 8 November in 2026, and only Friday to Sunday in the fall.
- You want the evening events. Howl-O-Scream starts at 7pm and runs late, and Christmas Town runs until park close. A short drive or a shuttle back to the hotel is worth a lot at the end of a long day.
- You have small children. Being minutes away makes an early start, and an early night, much easier.
- You arrive late or leave early and Busch Gardens is the first or last thing on the trip.
It is the wrong call when Busch Gardens is one day in a week that also includes the Riverwalk, Ybor City, the beaches or St. Petersburg. Then you would be trading six days of walkable evenings for one shorter drive. Stay downtown or in Water Street, and drive the eight miles for the park day. Our guide to the best hotels in Tampa covers those areas.
The park’s partner hotels, by distance
Busch Gardens publishes a list of partner hotels on its vacation-packages pages. The table below gives what that page said in October 2026 for the hotels in North Tampa, in the park’s own words where it gives a distance. “No shuttle mentioned” means the park’s page does not list one, not necessarily that the hotel has none. Ask.
| Hotel | Distance, per the park | Shuttle, per the park | Also listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hampton Inn & Suites Tampa Busch Gardens Area | Directly across from the main entrance | None mentioned | Microwave and mini-fridge in rooms, free Wi-Fi |
| Home2 Suites by Hilton Tampa USF Near Busch Gardens | About a mile | None mentioned | Full in-room kitchen, free breakfast |
| Hyatt Place Tampa/Busch Gardens | Within two miles | None mentioned | On-site dining, outdoor pool, fitness center |
| Embassy Suites by Hilton Tampa USF Near Busch Gardens | Five minutes | Free shuttle to the park | Free breakfast, evening reception |
| Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa-USF-Busch Gardens | USF and Busch Gardens area | Complimentary shuttle to the parks | Heated pool, breakfast |
| Holiday Inn Tampa North | “Minutes” away, across from USF | None mentioned | On-site restaurant |
| Hilton Garden Inn Tampa North | Not stated; in a nature-preserve setting | Complimentary shuttle to the park | — |
| Oasis Bay Suites | Not stated | Complimentary shuttle to Busch Gardens | Kitchenettes, heated pool, on-site dining |
| Hampton Inn & Suites Tampa-North | About six miles | None mentioned | Free hot breakfast, outdoor pool |
| Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa-I-75 @ Bruce B. Downs | Not stated; New Tampa, off I-75 | None mentioned | — |
Being on the park’s list means a hotel works with Busch Gardens on packages. It is not an inspection or a quality rating, and we have not stayed at any of these hotels. Read recent reviews for the specific property, and ask about anything on this page that matters to your trip.
Across the road, a mile out, or on a shuttle

Walking from across the road
A hotel “directly across from the main entrance” sounds like a stroll to the gate, and it can be. But the park sits beside Busch Boulevard, a busy multi-lane commercial road, and the walk from a hotel door to the ticket gates depends on where the crossings and the pedestrian routes are, which may mean a longer walk than the map suggests. Ask the hotel to describe the route and how long it takes, and walk it once in daylight before you rely on it with tired children at night.
The shuttle
A free shuttle is the best of both: no parking fee and no driving, without needing a hotel next to the gate. Before you book a hotel for its shuttle, ask four things:
- What time is the first run? If it doesn’t reach the park before opening, you lose the quiet first hour that is the main reason to stay close.
- What time is the last run back? The park’s closing time changes by date, and the evening events run late. A shuttle that stops at 6pm is no use on a Howl-O-Scream or Christmas Town night.
- Does it go to Adventure Island as well? The Holiday Inn Express lists a shuttle to “the parks”; others may serve only Busch Gardens.
- Do you need to reserve a seat? On busy days, a small hotel van can fill.
Driving and parking
The park lists parking from $35 plus tax a day on its upgrades page, while the FAQ on the same page says rates “start at $30”. Budget for the higher figure. Over a two-day visit that is at least $70 plus tax, which is the sum a shuttle hotel saves you, and it often decides the choice between two otherwise similar hotels. Busch Gardens’ Silver, Gold and Platinum annual passes include free parking. A Fun Card does not.
A park day from a nearby hotel
The reason to sleep near the park is to use the day differently from someone driving in from downtown or the beaches. A nearby hotel makes this pattern possible:
- Check the hours the night before. Busch Gardens publishes its opening times on a calendar, not as fixed daily hours, and they change by date and season. On one Friday in September 2026 the park ran from 10am to 6pm. Plan around your date, not a typical one.
- Be at the gate before opening. The first two hours are when the lines for the headline coasters are shortest, and the heat is lowest. This is the advantage a nearby hotel buys you, so don’t spend it on a slow hotel breakfast.
- Take the middle of the day off. From June to September the heat peaks in the early afternoon, and thunderstorms regularly close rides for a while. A pool and a nap at the hotel are worth more than an hour in a queue. If you plan to leave and come back, confirm the park’s same-day re-entry rules at the gate first.
- Come back for the late afternoon and evening, when the heat eases and the day visitors start heading home. On event nights, this is when Howl-O-Scream or Christmas Town begins.
Our Busch Gardens vacation guide sets out a full route through the park for a one-day visit, including what to ride first.
The areas around the park
Busch Boulevard
The closest hotels are on or just off Busch Boulevard, the commercial road along the park’s southern side. It is a working city corridor of shopping plazas, fast food and traffic, not a resort strip. That is fine for sleeping close to the gate, and it is not somewhere you will spend your evenings. The value of a hotel here is the location and nothing else, which is a perfectly good reason to choose one.
The University of South Florida and Fowler Avenue
North and east of the park, around the University of South Florida’s Tampa campus and Fowler Avenue, are several of the partner hotels, including the Embassy Suites, Home2 Suites, the Holiday Inn Tampa North across from the campus and the Holiday Inn Express. It is a university neighborhood with plenty of chain restaurants. It is a few minutes from the park, close to I-275 and I-75, and quieter than Busch Boulevard. For families on a two-park trip, this is often the sweet spot.

Temple Terrace
East of the university, Temple Terrace is a small, leafy separate city along the Hillsborough River. The Hilton Garden Inn Tampa North, which the park lists with a complimentary shuttle and a nature-preserve setting, is the partner hotel to look at here. It is a calmer base than the university area for anyone who wants trees outside the window more than restaurants down the street.
New Tampa and I-75
Further north and east, around Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and I-75, the partner list includes hotels such as the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa-I-75 @ Bruce B. Downs and the Hampton Inn & Suites Tampa-North, which the park puts about six miles away. These suit drivers coming down I-75, or anyone combining the park with places further north, and they put you a short drive from the gate rather than a walk.
What families should look for
Most families staying near Busch Gardens are doing a two-park trip with children, and the park’s partner list covers the essentials unevenly. Match the hotel to the family:
- A kitchen saves real money. Home2 Suites lists full in-room kitchens, Oasis Bay Suites lists kitchenettes, and the Hampton Inn across from the entrance lists a microwave and mini-fridge. Breakfast in the room and a packed snack bag cut the cost of a park day considerably.
- Included breakfast helps the early start. The Embassy Suites, Home2 Suites, the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn & Suites Tampa-North all list free breakfast. Check the time it starts against the park’s opening.
- A heated pool matters in winter. The Holiday Inn Express and Oasis Bay Suites list heated pools, which is the difference between a pool you use in January and one you look at.
- Bring your own stroller. The park rents strollers from $37 a day. If you are driving or using a hotel shuttle that takes one, bringing your own is much cheaper over two days.
- Know the height lines before you go. At Busch Gardens, 48 inches is the practical dividing line: below it, most of the headline coasters are off limits, and some of the rides in Sesame Street Safari of Fun have maximum heights. Measure your children at home so nobody is surprised at the gate.
Our guide to Tampa with kids covers the rest of a family trip, from the aquarium to the beaches.
Accessibility
Busch Gardens runs a Ride Accessibility Program, which matches each guest’s abilities to each ride’s requirements; you enroll at Guest Relations inside the park. Staff may steady a guest transferring from a wheelchair but may not lift anyone, so every guest has to board unaided or with help from their own party. The park rents wheelchairs from $37 and motorized scooters from $115.
For the hotel, the questions are practical. Ask whether the shuttle has a wheelchair lift or ramp, and whether it needs to be booked in advance. Ask about the step-free route from the room to the shuttle or the car. And if you are relying on walking from a hotel across the road, have the route described precisely, because a crossing of a busy multi-lane road is a different proposition in a wheelchair.
Getting there from the airport
Tampa International Airport puts Busch Gardens about 16 miles from the terminal. The airport’s flat $40 taxi rate applies only to downtown Tampa and the cruise terminals, so a cab to a hotel near the park is metered, and rideshare pickups at the airport carry a $5 airport fee. If you rent a car, note that most rental companies bill tolls to your card by license plate with a daily fee on top, which matters if your route uses a toll road. For a stay built entirely around the park, a rideshare from the airport and a shuttle hotel can mean you don’t need a car at all.
Adventure Island and two-park stays
Adventure Island, the 30-acre water park directly across the street from Busch Gardens, is the reason many families stay in this part of town. Two things shape a two-park trip:
- The season. In 2026 it opened on select dates from about 7 March and closes for the year on 8 November, running only Friday to Sunday in the fall. It is closed through the winter, so a December two-park plan doesn’t work.
- The tickets. The 2027 Busch Gardens Fun Card, at $129.99, includes Adventure Island through 24 October 2027 as well as unlimited Busch Gardens visits through the end of 2027, and it costs the same as the park-only version. A Two-Day Two-Park ticket is $100. Our Busch Gardens tickets guide works through which one wins for your dates.

Beyond the park: what else is close
A North Tampa base is weak for the city’s highlights, but it is not empty. For a second or third day that doesn’t involve Busch Gardens, these are within a short drive:
- MOSI, the science museum, is on East Fowler Avenue in the university area, open daily from 10am to 5pm. Know before you go that it closed about 85% of its building and its IMAX theater in 2017, and it is much smaller than its old reputation. It is fine for young children and not a full day out.
- ZooTampa at Lowry Park, on West Sligh Avenue, a short drive west of the park, opens from 9:30am, with adult admission at $51.95 at the box office. It is a natural second animal day for families who loved the Serengeti Plain.
- Hillsborough River State Park, northeast of the city, is $6 per vehicle, with seven miles of trails and a rare stretch of Class II rapids. It reopened in February 2025 but is still partly closed, so check the park’s notices before you go.
For downtown, the Riverwalk and Ybor City, plan on the eight-mile drive or a rideshare each way. Our guide to the best things to do in Tampa covers the rest of the city.
Eating on park days
Food is the cost that quietly doubles a theme-park day, and where you stay decides how much control you have over it. The park’s All-Day Dining plan costs $40 a person when you add it to a ticket at purchase, against $59.99 bought separately later, so if you want it, buy it with the ticket. Without it, a hotel with a kitchen or an included breakfast lets you eat a proper meal before you go in and keep the in-park spending to lunch and drinks. On Busch Boulevard and around the university, the dinner options are mostly chain restaurants. A hotel restaurant, such as the ones the Hyatt Place, the Holiday Inn Tampa North and Oasis Bay Suites list, saves a drive at the end of a long day.
What the park’s own list tells you
The partner list holds a quiet piece of advice of its own. Alongside the North Tampa hotels, Busch Gardens lists partners in downtown Tampa, near the airport in Westshore, on Clearwater Beach and on St. Pete Beach. The park expects a good share of its visitors to stay somewhere else and drive in for the day, which is exactly what most visitors should do when the park is one part of a wider trip. If you are basing yourself on the Gulf, our Clearwater Beach hotels guide covers the island, and budget for the drive: Busch Gardens is a long way from the beaches, across the bay.
Staying in Orlando instead?
Plenty of visitors see Busch Gardens as a day out from an Orlando holiday. Tampa International Airport puts Orlando about 85 miles from the airport, so it is a long day by car. Busch Gardens has run a Shuttle Express from Orlando-area pickup points, free with any Busch Gardens ticket, Fun Card or Annual Pass, with reservations required by 11:59pm the night before. When we checked, the park’s information described reservations through 30 June 2026, so confirm that it is running for your dates before you plan around it. If it is, it is far cheaper than a Tampa hotel night for a single park day.
A two-day Busch Gardens trip, costed
Hotel rates change daily and aren’t quoted here, but the park costs that sit on top of them are fixed enough to plan with. For a family of four (two adults, two children), two park days:
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Two-Day Two-Park tickets, four people | $400 | $100 each; any two of Busch Gardens, Adventure Island and the Orlando parks |
| or 2027 Fun Cards, four people | $519.96 | $129.99 each; unlimited visits through 2027 plus Adventure Island |
| Parking, two days, if you drive | From $70 plus tax | $0 if your hotel’s shuttle covers it |
| All-Day Dining, added to tickets | $40 per person per day | $59.99 if bought separately later |
The Fun Card costs about $120 more than two-day tickets for a family of four, and it pays for itself if you go back even once more before the end of 2027. A shuttle hotel takes $70 or more off the bill at a stroke. Ticket prices are the park’s published figures, checked in September 2026; single-day tickets use date-based pricing, so the comparison changes on expensive dates.
Timing your stay
- Howl-O-Scream runs on select nights to 31 October 2026, starting at 7pm, on a separate ticket that annual passes and Fun Cards don’t cover. A nearby hotel saves a late drive.
- Christmas Town runs on select dates from 13 November 2026 to 4 January 2027, open to park close and included with admission. The 2027 Fun Card is blocked out on 23, 25 and 26 December.
- Spring break in March and the summer school holidays are the park’s busiest periods. Book hotels early and arrive at opening.
- Summer brings intense heat and afternoon thunderstorms that close rides for a while. A hotel close enough for a midday break is worth more in July than in January.
Ten questions to ask before you book
- How far is it, door to gate, on foot or by shuttle?
- When does the first shuttle leave, and does it reach the park before opening?
- When is the last shuttle back, and does it run late on event nights?
- Does the shuttle also serve Adventure Island?
- Do I need to reserve a shuttle seat?
- Is there a charge for parking at the hotel itself?
- What time does breakfast start, compared with park opening?
- Is there a kitchen or a microwave and fridge in the room?
- Is the pool heated in winter?
- Does the hotel sell park tickets or packages, and are they cheaper than buying online?
The last one deserves a careful answer. A package or front-desk discount is only a saving if it beats the park’s own online prices for your dates, so compare before you buy.
Mistakes to avoid
- Booking “near Busch Gardens” without checking the distance. The park’s own partner list runs from across the road to about six miles away.
- Assuming you can walk. Even the closest hotel faces a busy main road. Ask for the route.
- Choosing a hotel for its shuttle without checking the times. A shuttle that starts after opening or stops before the evening event is not doing the job.
- Planning a two-park trip in winter. Adventure Island closes for the season after 8 November 2026.
- Using a Fun Card on a blockout date. The 2027 Fun Card is blocked out on 23, 25 and 26 December.
- Expecting a Fun Card or annual pass to cover Howl-O-Scream. It is a separate ticket.
- Forgetting the parking line in the budget. From $35 plus tax a day at the park, unless a shuttle covers it.
- Staying near the park for a trip that is mostly elsewhere. If the beaches, downtown or St. Petersburg are the main event, Busch Gardens is a day trip, not a base.
